Summer has crept around the corner and will be upon us before we even know it. In preparation for it, fun lovers from all over are looking for that one memorable experience to set the pace for a season of incredible memories and great times all around.
The search comes to a halt with the annual Schaeffer Eye Center Crawfish Boil held in Birmingham, Alabama.
The name of this unique festival strikes many questions of who, where, when and what exactly is a crawfish?
The festival pulls its roots as far as 20 years ago in the backyard of Aaron and Phylllis Beam who loved to entertain friends with about 50 pounds of delicious crawfish ( a crustacean seafood). Becoming an annual tradition that people enjoyed so much, word began to spread, and their crowd grew bigger and bigger to the point that guests began selling tickets!

Seizing the opportunity, Aaron began charging admission to his event and giving the profits to charity. But as things became more involved Aaron needed to expand. Enter Dr. Jack Schaeffer of the Schaeffer Eye Center and over the years the event grew from hundreds in attendance, to thousands, including a lot more crawfish, a bigger festival and eventually top musical acts with profits going towards various charities in the surrounding area of Birmingham, AL.
